United States Maritime Commission C3 Type Ships
The C3 was 492 ft long, 69.5 feet wide, with a 28.5 foot draft, 7,800 gross tons and 12,00- deadweight tons. A total of 465 were built between 1940 and 1947. Most were equipped with a turbine developing 8,500 hp and could do 16.5 knots. They were used by the following:

- Four Aces
- American President Lines
- Moore-McCormack Lines
- U.S. Navy as Escort Carriers, submarine tenders, cargo ships, seaplane tenders, destroyer tenders
Names:

Some ships had several names before they saw service. For example, a ship was named "American Banker (I)" when the keel was laid. It was launched as "African Comet," before it was fully completed. The ship was completed as the "Arthur Middleton" for the U.S. Navy.
